CREATING A CYTECH CONNECTION

Step 1     Step 2     Step 3     Step 4     Notes

Setting up your new CyTech connection is a relatively easy process even if you don't consider yourself computer saavy. If you have doubts after reading these instructions, however, just make an appointment and our technicians will configure your connection for you for FREE (for new customers only).

Step 1
To begin, you must ensure that all necessary components are installed on your computer. To do so, follow these steps:
  1. Double-click My Computer

  2. Look for a folder called Dial-Up Networking

  3. If you have a Dial-Up Networking folder, go to STEP THREE to Install the TCP/IP Protocol.

  4. If you do not have a Dial-Up Networking folder, go to STEP TWO to Install Dial-Up Networking.

Step 2
To install Dial-Up Networking, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start.

  2. Click Settings.

  3. Click Control Panel.

  4. Double-click the Add/Remove Programs icon.

  5. On the Windows Setup tab, click Communications (do not click the check box).

  6. Click Details.

  7. Click the Dial-Up Networking check box to select it.

  8. Click OK.

  9. On the Windows Setup tab, click OK.

  10. Click OK when you are prompted to restart your computer.

  11. Once your computer restarts, go to STEP THREE to install the TCP/IP protocol.

Step 3
Follow these steps to install the TCP/IP protocol:
  1. Click Start.

  2. Click Settings.

  3. Click Control Panel.

  4. Double-click the Network icon.

  5. On the Configuration tab, look in the box titled "The following network components are installed:" for a protocol called TCP/IP -> Dial-Up Adapter

  6. If TCP/IP -> Dial-Up Adapter is listed, skip to Section 4 "Create and Configure a New PPP Connection". If TCP/IP -> Dial-Up Adapter is not listed, proceed to the next step.

  7. On the Configuration tab, click Add.

  8. Click Protocol.

  9. Click Add.

  10. In the Manufacturers box, click Microsoft.

  11. In the Network Protocols box, click TCP/IP.

  12. Click OK.

  13. Click OK when you are prompted to restart your computer.

  14. Once your computer restarts, go to STEP FOUR to create your new connection.
Notes regarding installation of network components:
  • The only network components required to connect to the Internet are:
    • Client for Microsoft Networks

    • Dial-Up Adapter

    • TCP/IP
  • Your computer may have other network components installed. Other installed components should not affect your connection to CyTech.

  • The default TCP/IP settings are as follows:
    • IP address set to Obtain An IP Address Automatically

    • WINS Configuration set to Use DHCP For WINS Resolution

    • Installed Gateways: None

    • DNS Configuration set to Disable DNS
  • You can have additional protocols bound to the dial-up adapter if you need them for connection to other Dial-Up Networking servers.

  • To remove a component, click the component, and then click Remove.

  • You do not need to configure any TCP/IP settings at this time. Instructions for configuring these settings is covered under "Configuring Your TCP/IP Settings".
